I consider myself a Trdlnik conocieur, I lived in Prague for a year, and that's the "czech" food I did like. From my most recent visit to the city, THIS IS THE ONE PLACE I went the most to, THE ONLY ONE I WENT BACK TO (MULTIPLE TIMES). This is by far the current best in Prague: -Always fresh and super warm -The texture is simply perfect: with a caramelized crunch on the exterior and soft inside that is not cakey or airly. Instead, it is more compact yet soft. -The staff is so kind, specially the guy working there, which is not the czech standard, in other places they even get mad if you ask for a hot trdlo, not here, he even warns you that it will be super hot. -They have free samples, and you can try it first. They are kosher and at a super convenient location. -Price wise, they are a little bit cheaper than other places at 80czk (plain).
I hope they continue to always be kind and deliver the best of the best at a reasonable price.
My go-to is always the basic plain one, I find fillings are more heavy and overly sweet. You can see my multiple visits on my videos, always 10/10. I visited 4 times. Don't waste your calories going to another place, this is it, from someone who has tried and eaten...
Read moreThe food was bad, honestly. Trdelnik - I have tried them more fresh, more robust with spices and kind of more juicy than this one. It was cold, super dry and with little taste. The ice cream added to it tasted very fake, like it had nothing to do with cream. I could understand this 20 years ago, but today with thousands of good craft ice cream places they could at least try to do their best and procure better material. The "nutella" highlighted in the menu was actually not The Nutella, but some other chocolate-nut cream. It was good though, so that's fine. It's just that instead of lying, they could remove the "Nutella" name from the menu. And the mulled wine that we tried was OK, but nothing special. The service was very kind and nice so for this I am giving five stars. Guys, repair the quality of your food, refresh the menu to meet today's standards and you have a potential:) PS. I was there at 30mins before closing, so this could explain not fresh trdelnik. But well, on the other hand it should be fresh until the very last...
Read moreThis is my first and maybe only Trdelnik, this review is for everyone who hasn't had one before. The takeaway is that the pastry is more difficult to eat than they look and there is no bottom. I kind of imagined a soft bread cup with strawberries, Nutella and ice cream in it. In reality (at least the one I got) the bread part was hard and you need to spiral your way down unless you want Nutella on your nose, but then when you're about to finish eating you have a paper cup in the way. I tried lifting the Trdelnik up, realizing all the chocolate and strawberries fell down to the paper cup. So now I'm using both hands to hold up a single pastry.
It was delicious and as others had said, not too sweet, which I enjoy. However the fact of me not knowing how Trdelnik is formed made it difficult to eat. Keep some tissues or know where a water fountain is so that you can wash yourself, in case something spills. Definitely try it...
