Hyttefadet — Restaurant in Copenhagen Municipality

My partner and I came here for our last dinner in Copenhagen - if only we hadn't. The only positives are a lovely location and very friendly staff. The food on the other hand was horrible. We chose the 2 fish dishes - perhaps this was our mistake and the other dishes are better, but in any case it was almost inedible. The fish fillets were very thin and surrounded by a very damp and greasy breading that was many times thicker than the fish (after peeling it off, the soggy bit of fish that remained was not palatable). I also received 2 fried fillets instead of one fried, and one broiled. I did mention both the quality and this to the waiter but the only response was a shrug of the shoulders and to the mistake - "Really? Oh sorry, that that was a mistake from the kitchen". No recompensation. The fries were fine though. I wouldn't recommend coming here for anything other than a drink by the canal. I wish we had gone back to the cheap 24hr kebab...

Smørrebrød 🍞🐟 A traditional Danish 'open-faced' sandwich, with beautiful dark sourdough rye bread. This was our very first meal in Copenhagen, and it happened to be in beautiful Nyhavn at the Hyttefadet restaurant. ⛵

We had to get something authentically Danish - and we were recommended Smørrebrød. It was heavenly. We chose the 'Sailor's Favourite' option - 3 different types of fishes served as toppings on the Smørrebrød; marinated herring, fried fillet of flounder, smoked salmon 🚣🏻. The dark rye bread, toasted with butter, was delicious.

Michelle opted for the vegetarian option - Asparagus with Smoked Cheese & Herbs 🌿

We truly loved the Danish hospitality in this restaurant. The staff took their time to explain to us what Smørrebrød was. We loved our experience here.

We randomly dropped by after a cold walk; the place was packed but we wanted to eat here so we returned. We were lucky to be seated at a table for 2 in the heart of the place!

The service was great. The food simple but delicious. Both I and my date were visitors to the city & wanted to taste local cuisine, which is what we ordered & glad we followed staff's suggestions!

We started with glogg (Danish version of gluhwein). Main entree: I tried the flounder, he had Danish meatballs. We ended the meal sharing traditional Danish crepes & hot coffee - all hit the spot and we both were pleasantly surprised & agreed all was delicious; we would return if given the chance.
