Read more02Dec23 - we were attracted by the smiling staff who greeted us when we walked past. Since we were looking for Peranakan food, so hubby and I decided to try out at this place. We were surprised when another friendly and petite server told us they were newly opened and it's their 4th day. The restaurant was beautifully decorated and still maintaining the original structure of an old Peranakan houses in Melaka. We ordered with their recommendations. Honey Sotong is super yummy and I highly recommend. Paku with sambal is another you have to order. This is an organic wild vegetable that is very rare and cannot survive if sprayed with insecticide. Gerang Asam Fish is also very delicious. Another you have to eat when in Melaka is the cendol. We ordered it to be less sweet, which we love it. When the bill came, we were quite surprised as they were reasonably priced. As compared to many restaurants that we had patronised all these years when we were in Melaka.
We highly recommend this restaurant if you're looking for authentic Peranakan food with reasonable pricing.
Side note:
Although the restaurant doesn't have Halal certification, but all their ingredients were purchased from Halal suppliers. This is definitely true as they have...
Read morePeranakan Place unfortunately falls short of expectations, with a service experience that was truly frustrating and food that didn't live up to the hype.
The service was incredibly disappointing. Despite a relatively empty restaurant, our order was mishandled. The otak otak we ordered was completely forgotten about, and they had the audacity to include it in the bill until we pointed out the error. This lack of attention to detail and blatant attempt to overcharge is unacceptable, especially considering the limited number of occupied tables.
The Mee Siam, while advertised as spicy, was only mildly so – barely registering as anything beyond a kid spice level. Furthermore, the flavor was underwhelming and below average, lacking the depth and complexity one would expect from Peranakan cuisine.
Based on this experience, I cannot recommend Peranakan Place. The poor service and mediocre food make it a disappointing dining experience. It's a shame that such a potentially enjoyable culinary experience was marred by such basic errors and a lack of attentiveness from the staff. If you're looking for authentic and flavorful Peranakan food coupled with decent service, you're better off...
