We booked a cooking class with Mama Seledonia's and this was one of the best things we did. Seledonia was so much fun and although she couldn't speak much English and we couldn't speak Spanish, we could communicate wonderfully through smiles, laughter and gestures. She took us, along with our guide, to a local market that was incredible. All the vegetables, fruits, spices, meats, potatoes--it was mind blowing. And so beautiful!! We picked out the items we needed to make our dinner and then walked to her restaurant, Mama Seledonia's. We chopped and diced and had a grand time. We also got to make Pisco Sours, a delightful cocktail that was delicious. We had so much fun shaking those and dancing around. Our first course was a lamb stew that percolated on the stove while we chopped more veggies and spiced our filets for the main course, a delicious Peruvian-Asian fusion dish served with rice. We sauteed all that up on an open flame and didn't burn the place down. For dessert we had fresh fruit, fresh cheeses, and this amazing bread that we dipped in some sort of magical melted chocolate drink. The whole experience was absolutely incredible. We laughed and hugged and had the absolute best time. Her whole staff was so friendly, even though you know we were in their way (the restaurant was open for business). We met her husband and 2 of her children and they were delightful as well. We loved it so much, that later that week when we met up with some of our retreat group members, we all went to dinner at Mama Seledonia's and it was by far one of the best meals we had while in Peru. The presentation was absolutely incredible and the taste--oh my goodness! We all ordered something different and it was all exceptional. Definitely a one of a kind meal in a wonderful, friendly environment. I highly recommend you visit Mama Seledonia's for a meal and if you can, do the...
Read moreOne of the best meals of my life. My walking tour guide gave me a tip to come here in the afternoon and order the cuy/guinea pig a few hours in advance so it can be slow roasted and prepared for dinner. The place is just outside the main tourist area, but really feels hidden into the wall, where you enter upstairs to a lovely loft with soft jazz music, friendly welcoming staff, and beautiful art. When arrived later for dinner, my table on a little balcony window overlooking the street and mountains was ready, and the food was brought out within a few minutes without me even saying anything. The cuy was unbelievably good, as well as two kinds of stuffed peppers with intensely flavorful ground pork meat, and breaded in a fluffy and flavorful cornmeal breading. The purple and white Peruvian potatoes were so crispy on the outside and soft and warm on the inside, with unique and great flavor. My only regret is that I was still adjusting to the altitude in Cusco so I wasn't able to finish the meal due to mild nausea and reduced appetite! But I loved every bite I was able to have and recommended this restaurant to everyone else I met on the...
Read moreThey have two restaurants in Cusco. One appears to be next to their house and another one on main Ruinas street. We first went to the the smaller one next to their house and loved the menu and food. Fantastic actually. We went there again the next day and they told us to go to the bigger one on Ruinas. Actually, the girl (probably owner's daughter) escorted us to the restaurant because we didn't know where it was. This big Restaurant was a disappointment. Menu was different. Language barrier prevented us from communicating clearly. We selected a few items from the menu. We clearly mentioned that we are in a hurry. They took one hour to get our food. I gave my credit card as soon as the food was served. After finishing eating, I had to go to cash counter to enquire about the card and payment.
I definitely recommend going to the smaller branch for the excellent food and fast service. Avoid the second one on Ruinas especially if you are in a hurry.
Staff is very polite and friendly in both restaurants. Use translation app to...
