10 out of 5 stars. We were looking for a particular local food truck that wasn’t at its usual spot, and thank god! We asked a taxi driver somewhere else local to eat and he recommended (actually, firmly demanded) we go here.
We’re from the south currently living in the Midwest, southern comfort food is our jam and we miss our hole in the wall Atlanta joints dearly. Believe me when I say this food filled the soul food shaped hole in my heart.
Can’t say enough about the food, or the people. I got the BBQ chicken with Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes and my partner got the oxtail, Mac and the potato salad. All were incredible, I actually ordered additional sides to take back to the hotel it was so good. Never had BBQ quite like this but it was incredibly delicious. The mashed potatoes might be the best I’ve ever had. The cake is a must try. Shama told us it was award winning, and I do not doubt it.
Speaking of Shama, she was incredibly welcoming and friendly. She told us about her, her restaurant and literally offered to go out and get one local fish to cook for my partner when he expressed a bit of disappointment at not being able to order the pot fish dish. Talking to her (and everyone else inside the restaurant) felt like being let in on an island secret.
We will be back before we go home. Maybe that time I will take pics of the food, but this time the smell and taste was too good to waste time with pictures. But I am including a pic of the outside to help other travelers find this...
Read moreWe arrived to St Thomas on my wife's 40th birthday, so I wanted to make sure we had a cake that day. I called and asked the guy at our hotel for a recommendation and he pointed me to Shama's. I gave her a call and ordered a rum cake for our arrival. After checking in we went over to have some dinner and indulge in the cake. The moment we walked in and told them we were there for the cake, they made us feel so special and welcomed. Even though the power was out on the island, that didn't slow anything down. We had a couple fantastic drinks, jerk chicken wings that i had to go back for a couple days later again, and some Caribbean chicken. All of it was amazing but the cake was the highlight and the people made it a great night for us. This rum cake was out of this world. Shama does not play around with the rum :) It was so good we had to bring a couple pieces back to the hotel to thank the manager that recommended Shama to us. We stopped in several more times during our stay and will miss Shama, Tiffany, Vaughn, and Corey. They really helped to make our St Thomas trip something...
Read moreFood and drinks were GREAT! Service was even better. Ice never seen someone so excited to serve and explain the dishes than the slim tall lady from the Bronx who took our order. Unfortunately I do not remember her name. I will be going back before my trip is over and I will update the info. I ordered the shrimp and salmon combo with rasta pasta and rice and peas. The coconut milk in rasta pasta kicks it up a big notch. The seasoning on the shrimp n salmon were great but that sham bam sauce took all the flavors to the top. The sham bam non alcoholic drink was very tasty. But then the waitress gave us small samples of the frozen drinks, and the Pina colada and the guava flavors were our favorites. The Pina colada was so rich and flavorful unlike any I've had in years. Again the BEST food drinks and fast service. You...
