This is quite possibly one of the best restaurants in all of the USVI. The food scene on this island to put it plainly is not very developed. Rudeness also runs rampant in St. Thomas, but Virgilios is a winner, and will honestly make you forget you're in USVI. With awesome customer service and food you'll think you're in little Italy somewhere stateside.
Make reservations, this cute and quite romatical restaurant has about 12 tables that can seat between 6-2 people. If you walk in during the dinner rush it's game over.
Or if you want to grab something to go, they have a cute take out window in the back of the restaurant. Call your order in and take your grub to the beach. They have a different menu for take out as opposed to dine in so check it out on their website. Favorites of ours off of the to go menu are the ribs and spicy chicken wings. Both are finger licking good, and my dogs give the ribs all four paws up!
For apps we love to order the calamari and mussels in spicy red wine sauce. My hubby and I think that the calamari is the best we've ever had anywhere period. They are light, crispy, fresh, non greasy, bites of fried yumminess. The mussels are also very large and steamed perfectly every time. The sauce they come in is so good, you'll dip your complimentary garlic bread in it. Drool!
The best entree we've tried is the Osso Bucco. We thought the Osso Bucco at Twisted Cork was the best on island. However Virgilios version blows twisted cork (highest rated Yelp restaurant on St. Thomas) out of the water on this one. Words can't describe of how juicy, tender, savory and massive this dish is. And it comes with fresh homemade linguini, I could eat this dish every day if it weren't for that thing called cholesterol! If you mention you're sharing the dish the staff will split it into two plates for you and we love it that you're always served sorbet between courses to clear your palate.
The two dessert winners for us is the Tiramisu and banana flambé. You can tell the Tiramisu is made fresh, perhaps daily, it's also massive. If you have to choose between the two, go for the banana flambé. They make it table side and put on a mini fire show for you (watch my video)
Virgilios will set you back $250 for 2 (including tip) if dinning in and ordering a bottle of wine. But life is short, and here you're guaranteed good customer service, so put this experience on your credit card and worry about the...
Read moreWe were on a trip to St. Thomas and were looking for an authentic Italian restaurant as described and many other known restaurants closed relatively early. First, we couldn’t believe the sticker shock on the menu for simple traditional dishes. We were sat and asked if bread were to come. They served one small basket of bread no olive oil, but the bread had it on it. It was tasty and we wanted more. Not once did they tell you that if you wanted another basket of bread there would be an extra charge. They charge you $3.50 each basket and never say a word. I ordered a Roy Rogers for my son he is a teenager the waiter had no idea what it was as the coke arrived without grenadine despite the fact that I confirmed if he did know how it was made. I personally had to get up and go make sure bartender added grenadine. Mind you the glass it was served in was an 8 oz rocks glass. They charged $4 for each one. One of the guests we were dining with ordered a pesto pasta on the meal didn’t include ANY protein for $24.95 we asked for shrimp and boy did we regret not asking how much the additional shrimp would cost. The 5 pieces of shrimp they added to her pasta were $16! Yes, $24.95+$16.00 for mediocre pasta. Their seafood pasta almost $50. The veal Marsala sauce I ordered was good, but the veal very over cooked. The tiramisu was terrible they add far too much cinnamon and use a wheat flour! That is a huge no no for tiramisu. The cappuccino was incredibly watery and low quality I didn’t even drink it was that bad. To make matters worse, the astronomical bill arrived only to find a forced gratuity of 20% for the slowest service we had to continuously ask for water refills on too of being taken advantage of.
The ambience is nice, it’s tiny, nice art on the wall and very old building, but you don’t have a view of anything and service is not the best. I asked for the manager and never got a straight answer. NO ONE here is Italian and mostly Colombian running what is suppose to be an Italian restaurant. VERY disappointed with their astronomical pricing and lack of quality...
Read moreLet me first start by saying I’ve been here before and I had a great experience, this time not so much. My family and I had 7:30 reservations. We showed up at 7:25 and were told our table would be ready shortly. After standing around for 10 mins in everyone’s way by the front door we were told to come to the bar for a drink which I assumed would be a complimentary drink for our inconvenience. It was not. We were told there was a large ground of 24 coming and we had to wait for other tables to open up before we got seated even though the other reservation for the table of 24 wasn’t until 8:30. My family then proceeded to stand around for 25 more minutes at the bar where there are no seats and stared at empty tables for people coming in 30 mins. We were repeatedly told they were sorry but they had a big reservation coming in like that was supposed make me and my family feel better to be about kept waiting 35 past my reservation. We were handed menus to look over so we knew what we wanted before we sat down making me feel like they were rushing us. It’s a strange feeling STANDING in a restaurant looking through a menu while everyone else is seated and eating. We were never compensated for our inconvenience. Not a drink bought by the restaurant not an appetizer or dessert comped as a small sign of appreciation for inconveniencing my family for our dinner. Food was delicious as usual the customer service and attention to reservations not so much. As far as the atmosphere the decor is fantastic I just don’t like them blasting Stevie wonder happy birthday song in the middle of dinner. There were 4 birthdays during our dinner and an anniversary. Imagine trying to have a conversation as Stevie Wonder gets blasted repeatedly followed up by kool and the gangs celebration. A small happy birthday being sung by staff no problem blasting Stevie wonder for the whole restaurant to have to cease conversations is not what I had in mind. This is nice restaurant with delicious food not a...
