While in the magical Christmas town of Leavenworth we decided to treat ourselves to a nice steak dinner. After scouring through reviews and menus we decided on Mozarts, located in the heart of Leavenworth, directly across from the main stage/gazebo .

I tried to call and email to make reservations, only to find out during the month of December they do not take reservations.

The email responce I received back from the restaurant, while relaying the same " no reservations in December information", also contained a great tip. I was told to call back at restaurant opening on the day we wanted to come for dinner, then ask to be put on the waitlist for my requested time. So that is what we did.

At 12:05pm I called in and got put on the waitlist for 7:30 pm. I was told to expect a text around our requested time and that a table would be ready within 7 minutes of the text. We were texted at 7:05 and seated as soon as we arrived.

The waitress was pleasant natured and attentive to our table.  As my 10 year old niece pointed out, she could tell the waitress was going to be a good one. This astute assessment was based off the salt and pepper shakers.  My niece let me know that only someone that takes pride in their craft takes the time to make sure the salt and pepper shakers at the table are nice and full at all times.  A partly full shaker equivalates a lazy and uncaring server (Thanks to her I am now going to be forever looking at restaurant spice shakers).

The restaurant was spacious and had a faint Italian vibe to it, with some tasteful Christmas décor added in.  The lighting was nice, not too dark and not too bright. One of the other small touches we noticed in this restaurant were the bathrooms.  In the bathrooms there was a box of baby diapers in all sizes, that said need one, take one.  I though this was a great touch of hospitality for the baby emergency!

We ordered the following as a table: Drinks - Red bend wine, Soda, and Lemonade Starter – Fondu Dinner 8 Oz filet , with a demi glaze served with garlic mashed potatoes, and aspargas. 8 oz filet, with a demi glaze served with a bigger side of aspargas (substituted due to a potato allergy). Beef Goulaush (strange chunky tomatoey beef stew) Side Ceasar salad with a side of sliced apples.

The Fondu starter came out quickly.  It was a little on the thick side, but had good flavor.  The fondue was served with bread, sliced apples, grapes, potatoes and sweet potatoes chunks. My husband is allergic to potatoes and apples so we requested an extra side of bread to be served with the fondue.  The server forgot the bread request and we had to ask 2 more times for it.  The bread did arrive but almost at the end of the meal.

The filets in the filet dinners were HUGE.  They did not skimp on the steak size.  Both of us thought the steak dinners were average /good, but while we both of us though the steaks were good my entire dinner was served luke warm.

One of my nieces had wanted to order soup, but we were told they did not have a soup of the day or any soup for that matter.  The closest they had was a Beef Goulash.  This was a type of tomato beef stew.  She was not a huge fan of the Goulash.  I tried a couple bites and though it was very bland.  To me it tasted like a bland spagatti sause searved over small beef chunks.

My other niece had the ceasar salad and apple slices.  She was happy with both and was especially happy with all the parmesan cheese chunks on the top.

Our total bill was $200, not including tip.

The staff was friendly and accommodating but be aware that you are only paying for the Leavenworth experience, and a place to sit down in a crowded festival environment.

All of us were in agreement that the $7 hotdog, sourcrout, and $3 French fries we had from the street vendor were better than   $200 dinner we had at this upscale restaurant.

If you like this review, please give it a thumbs up. Comment and follow me for more epic reviews. Happy...

UPDATE: Three days ago, the "owner replied to my review asking me to contact them. I immediately emailed the address provided giving them my email address and phone number. Nothing. They respond to make it appear that they care in improving and retaining customers with bad experience.... yet, not one word since I emailed them on Tuesday. It's now Friday. More than time for a concerned owner to respond.

Love the food here. Have been looking forward to my birthday dinner here with my daughter for a while now.

Lost two stars based on service. Waitress is basically ignoring us in favor of a table of 5 next to us. Been sitting here for almost 10 minutes now with 2 empty drink glasses- an iced tea and a gluewein. Want to order a margarita but haven't gotten an opportunity. oh the waitress just came by, looked at me, the drinks and barely stopped. She did slow down to tap me on the shoulder to say "your food will be right out". Hope the steak lives up to what it had been in the past. Very disrupting birthday experience so far.

My 14 yo daughter just told me if she ever comes back and stopped long enough, she wants to ask her if we have done anything wrong.

Update: apparently, this review was read while we were eating. Despite me clearly stating it was my birthday dinner in the review (never mentioned it in the restaurant), the waitress brought out a birthday dessert, gave it to my daughter and wished her a happy birthday. Intentional slight?? Hard to think otherwise. Fortunately, we already had other dessert plans. Then she proceeded to "apologize" in a very upset and condescending tone trying to explain that she wasn't ignoring us, but that she was just very busy. Didn't stop her from attending to the other tables around us. She then walked over to the table next to us and very loudly asked them how her service was. They were happy with it, but I would have been too had she paid the attention to us she did to them. She then tried to lower her voice and told them about my review. Extremely unprofessional. Losing more stars because of that. The steaks were good and no complaints there other than when I asked what was in the signature rub, all she could tell me was "a bunch of spices" . That was a helpful as if she said "I don't know". Additionally, the stress of everything up to that point (very much including her being treated as the birthday girl when she knew it clearly stated it was mine in the review-she too thought it was a slight because of the initial review) caused my daughter's chronic panic attack to flair up and she couldn't finish her steak because her stomach started hurting. We've enjoyed Mozarts in the past for my birthday, but at almost $100/person, I don't expect condescension and unprofessional behavior. There are other steaks to be gotten in Leavenworth and will give them a...

My wife and I first met in Leavenworth, Washington 12 years ago. We decided last week we would come back like we have several times in the past to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We knew from past experience which hotel we wanted to stay at and also knew exactly which restaurant to have dinner at.

The first thing we noticed while looking at Mozarts website was that they still had " Chef Carl Anderson " listed as the Chef. This brought us great joy because he had the pleasurable experience of not only eating Chef Anderson's food but we also had the opportunity to speak with him and hear his story. We were excited to eat his food again.

The first sign of a problem was when we got our escargot. We were left having to fish through what seemed like a odd tasting bland garlic alfredo type sauce in a sea full of mushrooms for a snail. I knew 2 seconds after getting the appetizer that Chef Carl Anderson probably didn't have anything to do with the dish. Upon questioning the waitress we found out that Chef Carl Anderson indeed does no longer work there.

For the main course I ordered their top of the line steak dinner called the Tomahawk.

It was advertised as being a " well marbled 16 ounce French ed bone in certified beef ribeye steak ". I also ordered it with shrimp and wild mushrooms.

The steak was like the escargot, very bland and under delivering in the flavor department. The description said it was " well marbled ". Clearly the chef they now have should first learn the difference between marble and gristle. The jumbo shrimp was so over cooked it was like chewing on a rubber tire. As far as the mushrooms go I really cant leave an opinion because well, does everything this chef cook taste the same ?

The worse part of our visit at Mozarts this time was at the very end when the waitress brought us our tab. The $200 price was no big deal because we have spent that on dessert before. What really disappointed me was that while leaving 90% of our food there uneaten, the waitress didn't ask if there was something wrong or anything. She didn't even acknowledge that 90% of our food was still sitting there. The truly sad part about our experience at Mozarts is that they don't even care that they are serving less than mediocre food at best.

As a final note, I'm going to try to locate Chef Carl Anderson and let him know about our experience. If I were him I would no longer want my name attached...
