I called in advance to make a reservation, and mentioned that I wanted that special tuna bone. I had such a limited time in New York and I made it a point to come here, but it seems like because there’s a misunderstanding on my reservation time group came during my reservation would be and they ended up getting the last tuna bone.
I don’t speak Japanese very well, but I am very upset that it seems the person who is taking reservations or is the hostess is not that fluent in English or just doesn’t listen or maybe just didn’t remember my requests?
The point is, It hurt seeing someone else eat the thing that I traveled thousands of miles to come and eat.
The funniest part is that I actually came early for my reservation by 30 minutes (45 minutes I guess, because they told me my reservation was for 7:45) and someone who was seated before me, ended up getting the last bone.
The hostess also seated a couple of Japanese guys before me even though I was standing there first for a good five minutes. This restaurant seems to hold very Japanese custom because this is also stuff that happens in Japan, but this is New York, not Japan.
I wish they would just honor things the way we do here as they would expect it if we went over there.
I’m really disappointed in my entire experience with this restaurant and their way of...
Read more⚠️❗️‼️ABSOLUTELY THE WORST JAPANESE RESTAURANT I’VE EVER BEEN TO!!!!!! After telling us tonight was fully booked, they let other people, who also didn’t have reservation and came after us seat in. I’ve always been a Japanese food lover but this one definitely has a horrible service. We got here at around 6pm and the waiter asked us if we have a reservation. We said no meanwhile there are more than 6 seats vacant from what we could see. And he immediately told us that we can’t dine in tonight because we don’t have reservation. And we checked if they have available spots tomorrow and they said that only btw 5-5:45, which gave us 45 min to finish. And then another two people came after us and said that they didn’t have reservation as well. The server ignored us and let them seat in. We came obviously earlier and we asked why they let the other two people in. They said because somebody just canceled the reservation. Besides, the server was very rude throughout the whole time, which made us think the restaurant doesn’t welcome us at all. I would never come here again and I wouldn’t recommend to any of my friends cuz this restaurant is clearly discriminating people. It really pissed us off. Again, there are so many other good Japanese restaurants with good service and I don’t know why they are so arrogant and...
Read moreOther reviews do a good job describing this place. A lot of Japanese patrons and, as far as I could tell, all Japanese staff. Maybe to reinforce that element, the menu is poorly translated into English, littered with errors.
The place is very unobtrusive. I looked it up after I walked by and decided to try it out. It has a whole vibe that my friend and I enjoyed. As a warning to people who don't like fish: you can avoid eating it but the smell of cooked first was potent when I walked in.
We tried the roasted eggplant. It was cold with no skin and I'm not sure what was on top. It was very subtle. I got the creamy mentaiko udon, which I've never had before. It's a pureed roe
It's a dish where the intense flavor contrasts against a soft, silky texture. Very enjoyable and the small portions lend themselves to trying more items. The prices are reasonable, especially given the quality of the food.
One funny thing: my vegetarian friend asked if the hot pot with intestines could be made vegetarian. The host said yes but I guess removing the meat violated the warranty. It was still good but we appreciated the honesty.
I was surprised that, even with reservations, we sat at the bar. There are tables in the back but I didn't go back to check it out. The decor is warm and...
