DO NOT EAT HERE if you expect respectful, professional treatment! I would give NO stars if it were an option. We were in town over the weekend for a wedding, visiting Savannah for the first time. This place was highly recommended, so we were excited to go. We had a party of three — my husband, 22-year-old daughter, and me. We tried to make a dinner reservation tonight, a Sunday evening. When my husband phoned, a recording advised that they did not take reservations, as that they are a “first-come, first-served only” restaurant. After we arrived, however, the hostess told us that our wait would be about an hour because they had RESERVATIONS for the several, clearly available tables! When challenged about the no-reservation policy on their phone recording, she told us that they began a new policy of taking reservations TODAY, Sept. 15, 2024, despite the fact that we had attempted to make a reservation just an hour prior. “How did the other patrons make a reservation?”, we wondered. Nevertheless, we agreed to be put on the waiting list. We returned about an hour later. After waiting another 20 mins, we inquired of the same hostess about what was taking our table so long to become available. She said that they were waiting for people who had finished their meals to leave, implying that patrons could tie-up tables indefinitely while others were waiting. We asked to speak to the manager, Will. He gave us the same excuse. When I remarked that allowing patrons to indefinitely occupy tables while others were waiting was poor management, he responded, “People spend hundreds, sometimes thousands of dollars to eat here. We’re not just going to put them out.” Highly offended, my husband asked, “Is our money not as good as anyone’s else?” He did not respond. We don’t know if this was racism at play, or just exceedingly inept management, but we left insulted and furious! We ultimately went to Sorry Charlie’s Oyster Bar, where we received excellent service and amazing food! Our server, Christine, took really good care of us. So, don’t waste your time and money on Chives. Walk a few blocks over to Sorry Charlie’s and get the service and treatment...

Read moreThis was a milestone birthday dinner gone wrong. Chives is my date night restaurant that has ALWAYS until Saturday hitting the mark. We arrived at 6pm and were told it would be a 1hr wait for the first table and 30 additional minutes possibly for a second table due a large party size of 10. We accepted and took a seat outside to wait in hopes that the birthday lady would get the experience. I ordered drinks at 6:54pm and continued to patiently wait to be seated. We weren't seated until closer to 8pm. Our server Mike was attentive and nice. He provided a menu and took our orders for food and appetizers(we we're starving by this time) to keep things flowing. We were still not all seated and after seating for 30 minutes we asked about the rest of our party to the manager Stephanie which said she would check for us, being we watched them seat 3 new parties while we were still waiting. We were than told that the 5 topper was going to be another 30 minutes after 2+ hours of waiting. I told her to make it a 4 topper because 1 of our guest had taken a seat at the table unwilling to continue to wait. Our final 4 were finally seated outside. The reason we waited was a waste after all. After another 10 minutes of waiting for food that was order 40 minutes ago I asked Stephanie if she could check on our good orders. Several people at the bar and around the restaurant had been served, yet we were still waiting. Stephanie said she would go check, however Stephanie never returned. I got up to go to the restroom 5 minutes later and Stephanie was at a table taking an order than bringing food out. I patiently waited for her and let her know she never came back with a answer nor did we have food. Shortly after our food came. This experience was AWFUL! Unacceptable for this level of a restaurant. I wanted to speak with the owner but when I called on today Stephanie answered and said to speak with higher management I'd have to go through her so I declined. Stephanie is the problem from the attitude down to the...
