We decided on Kayak Kafé after the last experience at a vegan café wowed us. It was convenient and I didn’t really scrutinize the reviews otherwise we may not have stopped in. The atmosphere in this café was chaotic. That’s the best I can describe it. We were there a little after 4pm on a Tuesday – not like a busy weekend – and tables weren’t cleaned so we sat at one that was clean-ish. The guy behind the bar was super friendly as was the woman he was passing the baton to since he was going off shift. We had questions about the Tiger Tofu, the Walnut "Chorizo" Meat, and the quinoa so she brought out samples of each, making our choices easier. All in all, I felt like the service was really good. The food was a mixed bag: my friend’s Vegetarian Salad with homemade Hummus was really good! My tacos, while pretty, were just not quite there. I loved the “chorizo” (base of walnuts), but the tacos were dry, just missing something. I asked for the cashew cheese thinking I could drizzle it on, but it was...bad. There you have it. It really missed the mark in all ways. It was basically another version of hummus (very similar texture). It only made it drier. And the flavor was...forgettable. I’m not sure even what to suggest as a remedy. In Colorado, I’d ask for a good salsa; here what’s available is hot sauce. Perhaps a vegan crema? At the end of the day, we paid almost $40 (not including tax or tip) for not much – and in my case, not great – food. That’s a theme in many of the reviews if you take the time to read them: very, very pricey. And the $10 - $20 range that Google gives you to rate the expensiveness of the restaurant is misleading.

Ordered on DoorDash and I never write reviews but this was so awful. I ordered for pickup and the pickup time said about 20-30 minutes, so I ordered two sandwiches and the tater tot nachos which cost a little over $55. Pricey but we wanted something on the healthier side. I walked around for about 45 minutes waiting for even an order confirmation (which tells you the restaurant got your order and they are making it) and then walked around for another half hour waiting for the order to be ready. Finally I gave up and head in only to find my food had been ready for a while and was now cold. I go back and eat some of my food, and the sandwiches were pretty good, even though it was all cold, however the tater tot nachos? The most disgusting thing I have ever seen. The first photo is what they are supposed to look like, and the second is what we got. Horrible experience and horrible food. Most people I asked say it’s normal a great place, so maybe it was a bad day, but terrible food and service. And the sandwiches, even if they were not cold, I don’t believe are worth $18 each.

We came here with my sister and her husband while they were on vacation in Savannah. They wanted something clean and healthier, and I've seen this place so many times while being downtown, so we decided to give it a try. The food wasn't bad by any means, but it also wasn't over the top good. My Mexican Chicken Salad was good, but there were so many things they could have done to make make it worth the $16 it was. I know food places jack prices up when they deem the restaurant a healthy alternative, but it wasn't anything different from any other place with salads. They make a fresh pressed green juice and sell them in small servings. They were $8.50 for a little container of the juice... It was okay, but I wouldn't say worth the price. They have options to sit outside, which is nice for people watching, but definitely just a basic atmosphere inside. Like I said, food was okay, and the service was great, but it definitely wasn't anything spectacular.

When we come to Savannah we always look forward to having lunch at the Kayak Kafe'. We had always gone to the Midtown location and returned many times. On Nov. 11th about 2:00 we had lunch at the Broughton location. We were a party of four and I was completely disappointed with our entire experience. The place was a mess , the restroom looked like it had not been cleaned for days. Trash overflowing onto the floor. Our server was totally disinterested in taking care of us. He was busy doing other chores....stocking things and taking care of those at the counter. The food itself was totally substandard and took about 40 min to appear. I was shocked! My turkey on sourdough had an almost transparent piece of avocado on it and the end of a tomato slice, the turkey was ground up. The bread was hard as a rock and cold (this was a melt). My husband's cubano sandwich was nothing like the one he had ordered at the Midtown location and was very disappointing. My son and daughter-in-law were too polite to complain but their food appeared less than appetizing. We wanted some dessert and I finally got up and brought some back to our table. I should mention the rush was well over. by now. I also had to get up and get my own check. Needless to say we will never return to your location. There were plenty of waitstaff people for the number of tables. I am really puzzled about why we had such negative experience. Server 202 Cashier Check Name kkp Date 11/11/17 I am not mean spirited or demanding. Even with poor service I left a $7.50 tip on a...

We waited 27 minutes for our take out orders which were then luke warm and they weren't very pleasant. With it being the first time we were unsure how to use the line since it's small inside and ended up ordering take out instead of getting a table. We realized our mistake immediately after and asked if there was any way to get a table. We were told unfortunately not since we had ordered take out. It was our mistake and they were busy at the time, however after waiting 20 minutes, much of the traffic cleared out and multiple tables were available. I'm very noticeably 8 months pregnant and they did not make any attempt to accommodate us or offer me to sit down. We were just told to go stand in the waiting area which is a fitness center lobby and there isn't seating. However, they told a guy that came in after us to go sit anywhere he would like outside. Mind you, he was in the same take out line we had been in. The girl that rang us up seemed inconvenienced and wasn't super friendly and really none of the other people working there did either. The food was pretty good minus it being cold, however we will not be visiting again. Pretty...
