My Fiancé and I are locals and we have been planning a 3 week, 1,700 mile camping trip for the last few months and needed to purchase some quality gear to last us the trip. We wanted to support a local business instead of going through Amazon or Bass Pro, and boy I’m glad we did. In this day and age customer service and knowledgeable expertise is a dying form, but Half-Moon Outfitters in Savannah has truly gone above and beyond to make sure my visit was amazing. From the get go we were immediately assisted and Brett went out of his way to try to find me some waterproof hiking shoes. When we discovered that the shoe I really liked was out of stock in my size he spent a good 10-15 minutes calling all the nearby stores to see if he could provide me with what I wanted. Although we couldn’t find the shoe, he wrote down a note to his manger to see if she could call the actual COMPANY to get the shoe delivered to the store before I hit the road… I was speechless.. Then after my fiancé and I found some of the most durable winter jackets we have seen, and left them behind the counter we traveled upstairs to find some collapsible hiking sticks. Quinn stepped in to lend his knowledge. Never once did we feel were were being “sold” something. He gave us his honest opinion saying I like this brand because of such and such and that the final decision was ours based on our budget and use of the item. Again genuine customer service. And THEN I found something that I absolutely didn’t need, but loved which was an authentic Swiss made small axe perfect for lightweight hikes and something I’m planning on keeping in my 4Runner at all times. I Reluctantly (but excitedly) flipped a coin to see if I was walking away with this fine tool. It seemed fate decided that the axe was mine. All the while Quinn didn’t once pressure me into buying the axe, but was quite intrigued by my moral dilemmas and did give his knowledge on the particulars on the item. Lastly, Katiy rang us up and genuinely was happy for our trip, and based on what we spent gave us TWO free Outfitters shirts. We then chatted and she expressed how thrilled she was that we supported their business. I CAN NOT convey how refreshing it was to go into an actual store, walk out with what you wanted and more, and all the while feel like you are valued and your business appreciated. Y’all. Even if you don’t buy anything, do a local business a favor, stop in, look around and meet some of these awesome employees and feel like you are home. Wish us luck on the trip!...
Read moreThe employees at this store were great. I’m posting this 1 star review because I was tricked by deceptive packaging.
In April, while on vacation in Savanah, I purchased a bottle of “Beach Bum Daily Mineral Sunscreen Moisturizer” from Half-Moon Outfitters. Today, after feeling like I didn’t get much sunscreen, I cut the bottle open and discovered that most of the bottle is empty except for a tiny resevoir at the very top, which I popped out and can be seen on the right in my photo. It’s not apparent from the outside that the bottle only contains a small dollop of sunscreen. Upon further inspection I realize that it says 1.7 oz on the bottle and I guess I should have been more perceptive, but I was in a rush and I don’t think about fluid measurements all that often. Beach Bum preyed on my stupidity. The only reason for this type of packaging is to deceive people. It makes me so mad. Once again, everything else about this store was great. The employees...
Read moreWorking in Savannah on a film project for NBC. I actually have a Patagonia Pro acct. but needed something for tomorrow so my acct. was worthless. Googled the store. I was on the phone for a time right out front of the store and then finally walked in. The man working gave me absolutely no acknowledgment. I was in store for around 30 long seconds and I thought for a moment that he was a customer! I asked him so and he said he worked there. My experience throughout my time with him was the same, very poor. The employee had a bad attitude. It sounds like he may be the one and same employee someone complained about a month ago. Myself nor anyone working for NBC on this particular job will be a patron of this establishment. On top of it all, I’m an Army Combat Veteran. You just don’t know who’s walking...
