I recently started a nutrition journey March of 2020 where I went vegan as well as cut out all refined sugars as I found I was incredibly intolerant. That ranged from white sugar to coconut brown sugar... none of it sat well with me! What didn't help was the MASSIVE sweet tooth I have, it would be hard because id have to pick between having a complete face & body breakout or enjoying a yummy dessert. Fruits are the only thing that my body doesn't mind , which includes dates!! It's been incredibly difficult to find not only vegan bakeries , but also vegan bakeries that have options of things not sweetened with refined sugars. My life truly changed with I ordered the chocolate date cake from this bakery! When I say it was & is the BEST cake I have ever had, frankly i'm not even sure that statement fully does it justice, it is rich, moist, flavorful and just melts in your mouth. Had I not known I would truly think it was a regular non-vegan refined sugar cake! I truly want to say thank you to Estella and the rest of the family at Akatsu for providing healthy alternatives to delicious desserts. I am so incredibly grateful for this establishment and all of their talent!!
Ps. I meant to add a photo, but frankly i finished the cake before i could even think about taking one!! Whether you have any restrictions for deserts or not, give this place a call as they are delicious and very ...
Read more3-25-25. I stopped at this bakery to get a sandwich as a shop person next to my hotel responded to my question about where I might get a sandwich in the neighborhood. I ordered the turkey pesto sandwich on Ciabatta bread. I asked TWICE if the turkey was real roast turkey like Thanksgiving turkey and I was assured it was. I hate that processed turkey roll product. So after waiting 20 minutes (there were no other customers there) my sandwich was given to me. I was shocked.
The “sandwich” was the size of a pack of cigarettes, the Ciabatta bread was nearly black and I’d never seen Ciabatta bread that color, the spinach (I think it was spinach) was wilted and brown on the edges. And worst or all, the turkey was NOT fresh roast real turkey but that disgusting processed turkey roll I specifically had asked about. This terrible sandwich cost $11 dollars! Never in my life have a tasted a worse sandwich, including those from a gas station, and after two bites I threw it in the trash. Their cookies and brownies and bundt cake may be good but unless you want to be ripped off for a tiny, terrible sandwich, don’t buy one here. I like to support local small businesses but this was just a terrible experience. Would...
Read moreAll the foods sold avoid the top eight allergens, so no gluten, no dairy (except you can get some with your coffee), no peanuts, etc. Delicious cookies, donuts, cakes, egg based sandwiches (one has bacon, too, if youre into that). Also good coffee and tea options.
I enjoyed the ginger cookie. It was soft as advertised and tasted good with a nice ginger taste. The donut was sweet and tasty and a bit decadent. I think I preferred the ginger cookie to the snickerdoodle. The biscotti chai chufa strikes a good balance between taste and decadence and I liked. I liked the chufa more than the thumbprint cookies.
The egg sandwich is portable if you need something quick on the way to work. I didnt try the egg with bacon sandwich but imagine its good.
The curried cauliflower with peas and the sweet potato with kale flatbreads were decent. I like the chutney they come with. I like them better than the egg sandwich personally (your mileage may vary), and liked the one with peas slightly better just cause I like peas.
Cake pops are a little pricey at $3.50 each. Basically a...
