🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Delicious Food, Peaceful Atmosphere, and Kind Service!
My husband and I recently had dinner at Kanak Indian Restaurant in Seattle on a weekday evening, and we had such a pleasant experience. The restaurant was calm and peaceful—not too many dine-in customers, but we noticed quite a few takeout orders being picked up, which says a lot about the local love for this spot.
We were warmly welcomed and served by two kind Indian women—one younger and one older. Both were incredibly patient and attentive throughout our meal. Their gentle hospitality really added to the relaxed atmosphere of the evening.
The food was amazing! We ordered two naan breads—one lamb naan and one garlic basil naan. The lamb naan was surprisingly filling and flavorful, and both were absolutely delicious. We also ordered two masalas (one each), and they were perfectly spiced and packed with rich, comforting flavors. Every bite was satisfying.
There was a small hiccup when it came time to pay—we weren’t initially given a receipt or the total, and just handed over our card. It was handed back quickly, and we were unsure if gratuity had already been included. Later, we double-checked the amount against our bank statement and realized it hadn’t been. We went back up to confirm the price with the younger woman, and she was incredibly gracious and understanding. We were happy to leave a cash tip, and appreciated how kind she was about the whole thing.
All in all, this was a lovely dinner experience. Between the delicious food, warm service, and relaxed setting, we’re already looking forward to returning. Highly recommend if you’re looking for authentic Indian food in a welcoming, low-key...
Read moreQuite a yummy Indian place. We came here on a weekday night for dinner and it was packed! Looks like even large groups (8-12 people) frequent here as I am sure they are able to feed a crowd expertly.
We got everything level 2 spicy (out of 5) and that was perfect for us. Everything had a kick but the spice was not overwhelming. I imagine they don't joke around with spice so when you ask for 5, you better be ready for it.
The dishes we tried: House Special Curry with Chicken - this was good but not our favorite. Chicken was tender and flavors were good. House Malasada with Lamb - this was by far our favorite dish of the night. The sauce was creamy and had a touch of sweetness to it. The lamb was so tender and delicious. Glad we got the naan to wipe up all the sauce. Garlic Naan - recommend. Aloo Ghobi - I typically like to order this at Indian restaurants but this wasn't my favorite version here. You get big chunks of cauliflower and potatoes but maybe because the pieces were so big that the flavors didn't come through as much. I am use to it being cut into much smaller pieces so the spices and sauce come through with every bite. Mango Lassi - good but I could've done without the ice and the straw was useless. Since the straws provided were made of paper, I could hardly drink it. I threw away the paper straw, fished out the ice cubes, and I was able to drink it a lot easier. It was thick and flavorful.
Overall, recommend it for sure. Call ahead to reserve seating during dinner times. Lots of people were doing take out - if you check in on Yelp, there is a 10% discount for...
Read moreOK, so I went into this because it's nearby. Can't beat a 2 minute walk for food.
Literally the ONLY negative to this place is that the counter is around the corner from the door, where there's a "wait to be seated" sign. There is no line of sight between the two. If you're thinking that this isn't a great arrangement, and that this would result in you either having to just stand at the door awkwardly, hoping against hope that someone will either seat you or acknowledge you so you can pick up your take-out order, or that you'll have to wander deeper into the place to try to catch SOMEONE'S attention, then . . . yes, exactly that.
That little quibble aside, the atmosphere is great, it's a cozy space with great lighting, and from what I could see while standing at the door for like 10 minutes, the staff seemed friendly, professional, courteous, just all-around great.
As for the food, I've eaten from there a couple times this week, and I've gotta say, good stuff. The samosas are not to be missed, the lassi is so refreshing, and as for the meals . . . you know best what you like, but for me, the butter chicken and the palak masala are absolutely fantastic. I'm gonna be a regular there soon, that's for sure. No matter what you like, if it's on the menu here, I will say with little fear of contradiction that you can trust the kitchen staff here to do it right.
If you want Indian and you're around here, definitely...
