The pyramid heights hotel provided a less than satisfactory experience. First of all there was no lift and the corridors were unkept, with dust piling at the corners triggering allergies. The place was run mostly by teenagers who looked as though they were under eighteen and complained whenever they were asked to do the most basic of tasks. We were initially shown a room which was unliveable with dark brown stains on the ceiling, extremely low beds and yellowed bedsheets. The room we upgraded to appeared to be much better, and it was more modern however it was badly put together, the bathroom wasn't clean and the bathtub and sink didn’t drain properly, the bedsheets were filled with long hair and the towels provided were stained with suspicious orange substances. When we requested new ones we were given dirty towels by a teenage boy who complained about having to do his job, and we were finally after asking four times, given clean towels. Furthermore, the TV didn't work and there was no water provided in the room. The restaurant at the hotel felt like a complete scam, the food was barely edible: throughout the meal we were constantly harassed to buy alcohol (which went against their own policy) and were told this would cost 75 US dollars. We refused and we were overcharged for the meal instead, we were charged 750 Egyptian dollars for a tiny plate consisting of two tiny chicken wings, a miniature finger of lamb and a spoonful of cold rice served with bbq sauce and ketchup. The restaurant itself was freezing cold. It took hours for the food to arrive and when it did it was served by teenagers wearing dirty clothing, with bad attitudes obviously gossiping about the...
Read moreHotel room is lovely, we stayed in a family suite which essentially an apartment, clearly has recently had some good investment as it was new and clean and well designed. A wonderful little sanctuary after being out in the craziness that is Giza. There is obviously a fantastic view of the pyramids here and was one of our main motivations for choosing this hotel. One evening we stayed in the hotel for dinner and the pyramid light show. Food was good but would say it was on the pricier side for what we expected for Egypt at around 4000 Egyptian Pounds for the 4 of us, but obviously we are paying for the convenience of eating in our hotel too. The room had information about a laundry service (we did not use so I can't comment on this service) and there are house rules and general information which is quite helpful. Tea and kettle in the room and water was in the fridge on arrival. Breakfast is a cold breakfast, but a big variety including fries, eggs, breads and vegetables. The omelette station was hit and miss with the staff member ignoring my child so we just didn't ask again. Reception staff and the manager are very helpful and kind. WiFi was really reliable. |We had some experience of staff trying to upsell constantly, for example breakfast comes with one coffee or tea but we were asked if we wanted to buy a latte or cappuccino instead. However, this seems to be the norm for Egypt. Overall, I would...
Read moreThis hotel is a spirited place to stay.
Me and my friend had a stay for two nights, but the hospitality we received was that of a close family member staying in their home. Gabri helped us find a way to explore not just the Giza Necropolis, but all around Cairo and even Al Fayoum. It is so immediately obvious that the family wants you to feel at home at their place, and not trying to get something from you.
Do not get me wrong, the fact that this place is family operated does NOT take away from the staff’s professionalism. The room we stayed at was clean and well maintained, the breakfast was authentic and prepared with care, and the rooftop is incredibly well maintained and versatile for whatever vibe you are looking for. You can quietly gaze at the pyramids in privacy (haram as they locally call them) or spend time with the cool people staying at or working here.
Me and my friend, as tourists from America, had no clue what to expect coming to stay here in Giza. Thanks to Gabri and the rest of the family, our stay became the time to connect with the community that has been living in this area for ages, and further explore Egypt with minimal hassle. In the two months of our traveling, this hotel gave us, by far, the best stay experience yet.
You’ll have a great time here. Don’t hesitate to book a stay at...
