Roper's Clothing — Local services in Helen

My son, husband, and I spent 3 days in Helen to go tubing, (which I highly recommend) on July 2nd, 3rd & 4th. 2023. Had I not needed to stop by the Dollar General, which was a short walk from our hotel, I would never have spotted this store otherwise and would never had the opportunity to meet such an amazing lady such as Mrs. Roper. Who has owned this place for 45 years! She was sitting on the little couch just as you walk in the door to the right with her little dog eating peanuts. I was very hot and out of breath sweating profusely and she invited me to sit on the opposite couch and take a rest. From that moment, I experienced 2 of the best hours I have had since my mother passed back in 2018. The more we talked, the more I enjoyed this ladies wisdom, sense of humor, and simply all around southern hospitality! My son and his daddy ended up having to more or less "drag me out of there" because I honestly could have stayed for hours just to enjoy Mrs. Roper's company. I offered to take her little sweet doggie out to do her business and she let me while she spent time with my husband and little boy. I ended up buying my boy a pair of cowboy boots, which he LOVES! They'll be perfect this fall for school. But as we watched other customers come and go, Mrs. Roper would grab her walker, head straight for them, and do what she done best.... make you feel right at home just like a grandmother would. I share this long review today because Mrs. Roper is one of the very very few left of a generation that we as Americans will never experience again. To walk in a store of any kind these days you're lucky to meet someone as special as Mrs. Roper. The lady working had her dog in the store, which is cool and all but the dog came up to my baby an was letting her pet it then the second time she was gonna pet it the dog snipped at my baby an she turned around an said "did she hit my dog I'll smack you if you hit my dog" my child did not hit her dog shouldn't have your pet around customers if it's going to be snippy an definitely shouldn't tell a customers 3yr old you'll smack her cause honey plzz. An my husband picked up one pair of boots to look at an came over he asked her if she had a different size an she asked him if he could see an to move so she could clean his mess that he never made, the boxes weren't in the right order according to her.....

My husband and I went to Helen for a mini vacation about a month ago. While we were there, an unexpected job opportunity came up for him and he needed a dress shirt for a video interview. The ladies working here (I believe one was the owner) were so helpful and friendly. I don't know if they read their reviews, but if they do and you remember helping us, I just wanted to let you know that he got the job, which was a big step up from his last position, and it's a fully remote position so we are able to travel freely now.. We are so excited and so thankful that y'all had a dress shirt and found him the perfect size on the first try! Thank you so much, from the bottom...
