Madewell — Local services in Salt Lake City

So, turns out, Madewell clothing isn’t actually made all that well. I’ve bought 3 pairs of jeans here and two have either ripped or had stitching come undone within a few weeks. A flannel shirt I paid $75 for busted at the seam because it was sewn too closely to the edge of the fabric. Really disenchanted with the overall quality of the clothing for the price point.

Upside? The customer service is actually great. I was able to return and get my money back for one pair of jeans and a shirt. If I’d known they’ll take stuff back as defective for as long as they do, I would have returned the second pair of jeans, too.

Anyway, I’ll just stick to high-waisted Levi’s and Everlane and save myself some...

Greeting could for sure be improved, but overall I've always had a nice experience at this location. Once you start the conversation I've always been met with great customer service.

Today, I went in to see if I could exchange a leather jacket for a different size and the first person who helped me was awesome - she knew exactly where the item was in the store and was helpful and honest about the fit and sizing. The person who rang me up and did the exchange for me was nice and very knowledgeable. I thought the exchange process was going to be difficult because of some coupons and rewards I had used on the initial purchase, but the whole process was fast and...

I had a disappointing experience at this location. The staff was unhelpful, and I felt that there was a clear bias in how customers were treated. It seemed that only white customers received attention and assistance, which was incredibly frustrating.

I had intended to purchase a few items, but after feeling racially profiled, I chose to leave and went to another store in the mall where I received excellent service. I ended up spending a few hundred dollars there instead. It's disheartening to encounter such behavior in a retail environment. I would recommend being cautious if you're not white, as it seems the staff may not provide you with the support...
