After having Marv & Ben our first night in Copenhagen, I had high hopes for Anton. My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary, and opted for the "Experience" tasting menu, but did not add on the wine pairing.

Some of the dishes were pretty good. The hamachi, for example, felt like eating a deconstructed KaniSu sushi roll (one of our favorites), so for that one it added a bit of familiar to the new. However, other dishes just missed the mark. The fried Cod was too salty for my wife to eat. In their defense they did try to make it right, but also they saw the uneaten dish sitting there for almost 15 minutes before they actually asked if it was okay (and seemed shocked to hear it wasn't). The rhubarb and cardamom ice cream dessert was, sadly, a swing and a miss. I had high hopes based on the description, but the flavors and textures just didn't gel. The people at the next table made similar comments.

This brings me to the service, which unlike what we experienced at their sister restaurant, can only be described as... inattentive. They weren't rude or anything, but they just made us feel like we were an uninvited guest who arrived for dinner without warning by the way we were continuously ignored. Additionally, they repeatedly tried to upsell add-ons we were not interested in (and frankly, black truffles on lamb or caviar on hamachi just isn't something I want to pay extra for). This just added to the negative of the experience with multiple attempts to upcharge and upsell.

Add to this a credit card surcharge and a charge for bringing us tap water to drink, (we did each order a glass of wine) and it was just an overall underwhelming experience. Could it be because our reservation was on a Tuesday? Maybe it was just an off night? At any rate, for us it just...

Restaurant Anton is the new sister restaurant to the highly-acclaimed Michelin star-studded restaurants Marv & Ben and Pescatarian. We hosted our 25th wedding anniversary (party of 35) in their new private dining space on the bottom floor. We are a Danish/American family living in California so it felt like a bit of a gamble as we had never been before and had to commit sight unseen. However, based on their other restaurants, their glowing reviews, stellar location and impeccably professional and friendly communication with the co-owner Henrik, we decided to go with it. We had a long wish list of specific requests and very high expectations and the experience blew us away! The food was outrageously fresh & delicious and the service could not have been more smooth, warm and wonderfully genuine. We had snacks & bubbles + 6 courses with wine pairings, and ended with dancing cocktails after dinner. Our crowd included friends and family from Denmark, California and Paris, including several foodies and top executives who travel the world and are used to top-notch dining, and let’s just say that everyone is still raving about how wonderful everything was. It truly was everything we wished for and more. If you are looking for an exclusive, unique, and memorable experience in a private space, look no further. And if you are extra lucky, you get to have Marc staff your event. Oh and I can't not mention the warm home-baked sourdough BREAD that's simply to die for!! We are going back for more before we leave for California. Thank...

Nice restaurant, fine interior. Very friendly people and very good food. Definitely a place to go there again. Please note: revenue focus on mineral / tap water (still/sparkling) replacing half full bottles. Just tell them not to replace them that often. Also watch out for Intl. credit card surcharge, not experienced anywhere else. We still recommend the restaurant. Just be a smart guest in the future.

Update related to your feedback: good to know now how the water model works good to know with Visa we could have avoided the surcharge

Recommendation: please inform Customers upfront

Further Update after feedback from Credit Card Company - so no fee from credit card company:

The fee you mention is known as a Disageo. The Disageo is charged by the merchant's contractual partner for processing the credit card payment. The merchant is generally entitled to charge the cardholder for credit card payments. However, in our experience, merchants only make use of this option in exceptional cases. If you are charged additional fees when using your card, these must be shown separately on the receipts.

Lessons learned, watch out for extra fees and...

Wanted to visit Marv and Ben but couldn't secure a seat, the staff there recommended us Anton said they share the same owner with a different concept. The staff at Marv and Ben was friendly, so we decided to give it a try. Anton is an old-fashioned restaurant with delicate decoration. They serve outstanding starters, the cabbage terrine was perfectly executed, the sauce was so good that I could just enjoy it on its own; and the hamachi was fresh and appetizing. The main dishes were decent, not special. However, I dislike their sides, romaine lettuce and roasted cauliflower, their flavors didn't balance well. Romaine lettuce was too acidic, and the taste of the cauliflower was jarring. We almost couldn't finish them. The female staff was "efficient", she wasn't rude, but I felt stressed when she urged us to order the sides which we didn't plan to order.

A relatively new restaurant so don’t be worried when you don’t see Anton in the Michelin guide, it should and will be. I’ve eaten in a lot of places in Copenhagen and I almost know what to expect when I sit down; dainty dishes, unique flavours and knowledgeable staff, but Anton delivers so much more than this. In an otherwise tourist hotspot, Anton stands out as the place that the international weekenders luck upon, and the locals battle their way through the crowds to get a dinner reservation. Impeccable food, brilliant value and a menu just big enough that caters to all, but isn’t intimidating. A fine wine list and staff that know the food and drink inside out. Huge, delicious flavours, brilliant cookery in a modern contemporary twist on a historic building. I’d implore anyone and everyone to make Anton a must visit on their trip to Copenhagen.
