Two stars for the rooftop bar. Cool location. Too bad the employees (or lack thereof) ruin it. For this large facility, I saw three employees out front. Not enough for the amount of work to be done. The three who were there had poor attitudes and made certain people feel unwelcome through totally ignoring them. We watched at least 3 parties give up and leave for this.
We arrived and took seats on the balcony. I saw people being served out there so I "assumed" the wait staff would be around shortly. No.... After waiting for 15 mins or so and trying to flag down an employee, I went to the bar and asked if I should order there. I was told yes, order here. I further asked why some people were being served and some were not. I didn't ask to be snarky. I asked so I could understand how the place works. All I got was a dirty look. I ordered a Long Island Iced Tea. The waitress set to pretending to make my drink but she obviously had no idea what she was doing, at all. In Indiana, it is illegal to act as bartender without license, so I found this strange. The Iced tea was totally wrong and I asked her if there was actually a bartender who could remake my drink. She asked a young man to remake my drink to which he stated, "In a bit". Eventually, my drink came out and was OK. Over-priced for the lack of quality but passable.
We wanted to order food but the terrible service and lack of employees told us it was time to leave. We went down the block and found a great place that was worth the money and the price.
Overall, my wife and I really loved the hotel despite the shortcomings but this place is not worth another look until they can get people hired...
Read moreVery upset about my visit this evening. I love pivot. I love the atmosphere, the food and balcony. I even celebrated my birthday dinner here. Tonight was a completely different experience. I was with my friend, it wasn’t busy at all. We went outside to sit at a table and we were never greeted, not even a smile or menu. After sitting there for about 10 mins and the server passing us several times, I went inside and spoke to a man who was also working asking if we should just order at the bar or inside…he told me we didn’t need to do that a server would be with us. Another 15 minutes pass, still no help another couple sits and is immediately greeted by the female server that was blatantly ignoring us. We went inside and stood at the bar, also after several minutes of waiting the guy I had asked about ordering inside asked how he could help us..we asked him why we hadn’t been served or helped after waiting well over 20 minutes. He seemed surprised that we hadn’t been helped and handed us menus. At this point we felt so uncomfortable even being there or ordering we left. I’m so sad because I was looking forward to it. Still confused on the entirety of what happened and...
Read moreAfter two years of frequent stays at the Hyatt House Downtown Indy, I’ll admit the menu at Pivot Bar + Balcony has started to feel… let’s say familiar. But there’s one reason—two nights a week—that I always look forward to dinner here: Angel.
And let me be clear: that’s not just her name, it’s her culinary identity.
Angel is, hands down, the heart and soul of the kitchen on Wednesday and Thursday nights. She doesn’t just make food—she crafts experiences. She’ll ask what flavors I’m into, what I’m craving, and then—like some kind of kitchen wizard—she creates something custom, delicious, and totally within the limits of their in-house ingredients. It’s like a choose-your-own-adventure meal… but every path leads to “WOW.”
Beyond her talent, Angel has that rare kind of warmth that makes you feel like a guest in her home rather than a hotel bar. She regularly steps out of the kitchen to check in, always with a bright smile and genuine care for how you’re enjoying your meal.
So if you’re staying at the Hyatt House and find yourself hungry on a Wednesday or Thursday, do yourself a favor—ask for Angel. Your taste buds will thank you. Probably...
