Super friendly staff here, especially Andrea and Erin - they started to recognize me just a couple days into my first term at PSU and even asked what kind of beer I liked so they could try to get more on tap.
There's a ton of seating, and plenty of non-alcoholic options to drink as well. From New York seltzer to Hi-ball energy drinks and their Jones soda fountain, you'll always have the perfect pairing for your slice(s).
The pizza is great and they don't shy away from a nice crispy crust. I can't get enough of that char taste personally. If you're used to Domino's, Papa John's, or frozen pizza, then this could be jarring, but this is much more akin to what authentic pizza looks and tastes like.
In traditional PNW fashion, they have all the fixings to top pizzas with as well. Parmesan, red chili pepper flakes, and my personal favorite - nutritional yeast. It just adds an amazing umami flavor to any pizza you order.
My favorite specific pizza so far is probably their pepperoni - it's of course an American staple and they do an amazing job with it. They have a ton of options, including vegetarian and vegan styles. They have a few salad options as well, my favorite being the caesar.
Located in the heart of the Portland State University campus, they have a ton of student traffic in and out of the joint, and that definitely feels like the audience they primarily cater to. The music they play is a mix of modern and 90's/2000's, pandering to both student and teacher vibes.
If you made it this far into the review, I'm going to let you in on a little secret - try out their lunch specials, served daily until 4pm. At the time of writing, they have 3 options available. The Slice Special is two slices and a soda for $9, the Lydia special is a slice, a salad, and a soda for $13, or the Domestic Beer Special, which includes any 2 slices and a pint of a few pre-selected domestic beers for $10.50. These are, of course,...
Read moreA friend and I went here yesterday for lunch. Pizza was pretty decent. I ordered a slice of the vegan daily pizza. Unfortunately, I had an allergic reaction and had no idea why. I went back to read the “slices” menu, didn’t see anything that would cause a reaction. I had even gone up to the workers and asked about the ingredients in the vegan pizza. They asked “as in what?” They said that it has “a lot of oil” and “soy” should be “allergen-free” I left the restaurant, dealing with an itchy throat and lips. I ended up having to go to Urgent Care. When I got home, I went back to read the menu again and I saw that on the big menu, it listed that the vegan cheese is cashew ricotta. In the restaurant, I completely missed the big menu because the towers of pizza blocked it and I just focused on the “slices” menu that was taped to the glass. A suggestion for the restaurant should just to be better at labeling or move your stack of pizza or invest in a food menu placed on a monitor mounted high up. Sad to say, my experience was not good with the workers but the pizza I had was good until I physically couldn’t...
Read moreTried this pizza place for the first time about 2 weeks back and came back today to see if it was a fluke, nope
The daily slice at 4$ rotates and the slices huge. Throw in Jones soda on tap and you have me sold.
I tried the sausage, garlic, mushroom and fresh mozzarella and it was fantastic.
The dough is spun out thin and sauce taste house made. The cheese is adequate and let's the sauce bubble up in places. The toppings are sufficient and not piled on.
The crust is slightly crispy but not over done allowing for some structure while it drops down from about the mid point.
The cheese pull is lacking but the flavor is fantastic. The herbs in the sauce are mildly aeromatic and don't over power the nose.
The sizes are between 18" thin and 12" pan sizing costing 22$ to 31$ before customization.
Over all it would be my #1 choice for thin crust pizza in town.
There are other establishments that offer more toppings and more exotic ingredients, but this is by far the best balance. I'm sure this place will be a hit with the PSU students next door for...
