My daughter took me here for Mother’s Day for breakfast. It’s very pretty and makes you think there should be Mother’s and Daughters in floral dresses having fancy tea Parties. Unfortunately we were not aware that the “kitchen is not open on Sunday’s” and so our options were limited. We were offered a bagel or quiche as breakfast options. My daughter chose the ham and cheese quiche and I chose the spinach and tomato quiche. She had a mixed Berry tarte and I had the lemon tarte. I also had a chocolate hazelnut espresso latte. The latte was ok. Nothing bad or good to say about it. The mixed berry tart was also just meh. My lemon tart was delicious but was VERY tart, which I enjoyed. The quiche’s were both fine the 1st couple of bites but by the 3rd and 4th bite it was obvious that they had not been heated throughly and the middle was refrigerator level cold. Very disappointed. The customer service ranged from disappointing to good based on the person. The original woman helping us was very dry, unhelpful and generally just seemed like she didn’t like her job. A second woman came up to assist and she was more friendly and helpful in offering and explaining the options available. Nice atmosphere but I wouldn’t return for the quality of food and service. The price of our limited options was also quite surprising. For almost $50 for 2 people, we should have gone someplace and had a feast.

Had such high hopes after dining at the Grey Sweater the night before. Walked in for coffee & pastries. Inquired about the cava & cheese experience; was told the chef could pull it together in about 30 min (typically advance notice is required). That turned into 1hr+. Busy afternoon & they seemed completely understaffed. The manager did everything except make coffee. Tables sat dirty literally for hours (the one pictured here next to the window was dirty when we arrived and stayed that way until the last 10 min of our hours long stay). But here’s what was most concerning, with a direct view of the kitchen, I noticed that none of the staff wore gloves when plating food. I also noticed the “chef” sweeping and then going back to plating food and they did not appear to wash their hands in between. When the cheese plate arrived the cheddar had dry spots as if it had been sitting out too long or just was not fresh; and the manager served it with a smile never acknowledging our extended wait or gratitude for our patience. This cannot be the experience Chef Black envisioned.

One of my fondest memories is working at the Colcord Hotel during the construction of the Devon Tower. During that time Chef Black was creating Flint. It was an honor to watch him and his staff create a long lasting, one of a kind dining experience. Now years later he has done it again. First National Center has been reborn and there is nothing better than a hotel bakery and coffee shop. The Gilded Acorn Eatery & Patisserie is classic but modern dining for anyone who enjoys the finer dining in life. A simple to the point menu with classic eatery delights. Every detail has Chef Black’s signature all over. From the amazing staff and the way you are greeted and waited on, to the interior design. The guilty pleasures that exist in this shop are in abundance. Mine is a chocolate croissant and this one is just right. If you order to go you will receive a beautiful bag or box. If you are there for coffee, give the barista time to make the best flavor. This is a place to be patient with. A place to savor the taste and also the experience. Magnificent

Sandwiches are good. Their ciabatta is probably the best in Oklahoma. But these virtues do not counterbalance the lack of customer care---an absolute necessity at this price point. Consider the following:

Staff do not know what sides are included in which sandwiches. The chicken sandwich comes with a side salad (not noted on the menu) but the French dip sandwich does not. When I asked if the French dip sandwich came with anything, for instance, French dip, the staff explained that it did not come with anything --- a confusing proposition given that the French dip sandwich is $3 more expensive than its chicken counterpart. But it did. It came with French dip.

No cup carriers. The manager creatively engineered one for me (thank you), but it would have been nice to just have them. If you serve coffee, you need cup carriers and plugs to prevent spillage.

Their to-go bags are too small for the to-go containers they use for their sandwiches. I had to turn my to-go container on its side to get it to fit in the bag, which would not have been more than a passing inconvenience had the sandwich container not contained a cup of French dip (see comment #1), which spilled into the bag. I don't quite understand what they're waiting for in terms of getting bigger bags. Better to give a customer a brown paper bag with their food than to require them to fit it into a small one and then have a $40 dry cleaning bill on top of their lunch expenses.

No silverware or napkins included in the to-go containers.

The chicken sandwich contains pesto, which is not noted on the menu. Those allergic to pine nuts should exercise caution.

Alone, these are small issues but, cumulatively, they reflect a lack of attention to detail and basic customer needs. Given their steep prices, these issues...

Upon walking in it's unclear as to what to do. Do you wait to be seated or do you sit yourselves? We sat ourselves since no one acknowledged us. Then when no one came to the table we had to stop a waiter and ask. Then we were told you order at the counter then it will be brought to you ( like Panara). For 3 people we ordered 80.00 worth of food and drinks. The Prime Benedict came out cold on the inside and the croissant burnt ( as in black) on the outside and the potatoes were cold. They made good on it right away and the second was as it should be cooked but i wouldn't order it again. They also offered to comp it but we refused as it was fixed graciously. The butternut squash soup was perfect but missing the crutons, the quiche was yummy. The Gilded Salad's candied bacon was not cooked long enough to become candied. The main problem was the service. It seems that the waitresses only jobs were to cater to the ones that reserved the tables for the High tea. They had 2 or 3 buzzing around them. We had to ask for water, ask for salt and pepper. There are no refills on iced tea. The only attention we got was when I'm right in the middle of eating my soup and a waitress comes by to clean off the table and try to take it. Then when the other two members of my party went to the restroom ( which is far away, btw) and I got up to order a pastry, I turn around and they have cleared off the table with our stuff still on it. I was going to finish my coffee with my pastry. If I'm downtown I may go by again but I won't make a...

I have enjoyed lunch at the Gilded Acorn many times. Today however was a very bad experience. The tables weren’t being attended to and at least 4 hadn’t been cleaned when we arrived a little after 1 pm. We were billed for items we did not receive. It took 30 minutes longer than stated for a to go order (a turkey sandwich), they brought a guest at our table the wrong order and then argued about whether the item ordered was on the menu. (Of course it was on the menu and then they did send someone to apologize but not the staff member who claimed we made up the menu item) None of our meals were served at the same time so everyone was waiting. Then a staff member was repeatedly attempting to bus our table before we had finished eating and after we asked the staff member to wait until we were finished eating our dessert before taking our napkins etc. This repeated undesired behavior was after the lunch rush so not many parties were in the restaurant, no one was waiting to take our table and we should be allowed to finish the meals we waited on and overpaid for. The same staff member attempted to throw a gift for a member of our party away; when alerted to the mistake, they did not put the gift back until being told quiet bluntly to do so. It was ridiculous. The Gilded Acorn must have a lot of new staff members who need hospitality training. I won’t return anytime soon in hopes they have the opportunity to correct their myriad of problems. Find another spot for lunch or tea until this place can train their staff appropriately. Try the...
