I did extensive research to ensure that my cousin had the best dinner for her bachelorette party! I wanted to wine and dine her and did not want mediocre food, hectic atmosphere or poor service. That is when I found Bricktops! However, the research could not have prepared me or the group the horrific experience we had here. After communication with Bricktops about this reservation I was shocked when our group was sat at two separate round tables. I asked if it was the correct seating arrangement and explained my confusion. As we walked in there were a couple of long tables that looked like prom groups were sat at, so I asked if we could push square tables together but was told no because they have other patrons (no other patrons ever were sat with us). After that question, quickly the server (who’s name I’ve erased from my memory) yells to the group everyone up, and proceeds to push the two round tables awkwardly together which I mentioned would not be necessary as it seemed it would be more difficult for them to do their job. I sat without a place setting and water for over thirty minutes and ended up just getting it myself. I ordered the “Cesar Salad for Two” when our server proceeds to have a several minute long conversation regarding table side, portion size and timing. I explained that I read the description and pointed to the item on the menu and said no thank you I’d just like to order this please. Everything I ordered seem to be a problem and a very long talk about the items. Unprompted, he offered to bring the table a round of tequila shots on the house (spoiler, they never came). I asked him in private if I could pay for myself and my two cousins and handed him my card he said of course, but then I got a charge for $700.00 on my debt card. I asked what happened he said oh you can’t split checks. When I asked to pay for THREE of us, that would have been a perfect time to mention that but but he proceeds to have a long conversation and asked if I wanted the manager, I said yes. The manager (initials VG, I did not catch his name) approached and said “what do you want me to do about it?”, I was appalled… they reversed the charges, then recharged the card where my debit card was then locked for the rest of the night. As we were leaving the manager was filling in the downstairs bartenders on our terrible experience. What a shame and embarrassment! Hopefully this helps in some way but I am confident when I say I would never ever return nor recommend this...
Read moreUpdate…We returned to The River House this visit to Nashville because we enjoyed it last visit to the area. It didn’t disappoint. The dining room is large with plenty of seating and they have a nice bar area, too. The noise level (loud) does not match the elegance of the space. Our server was Dan, attentive and friendly. The table (four of us) ordered a bottle of wine and shared the roasted bone marrow and also the steak tartar. We also ordered the popovers, which were divine. The roasted bone marrow had great flavor and came with grilled country bread. The steak tartare was filet mignon with shallots & capers and served with grilled sourdough bread. Both appetizers were delicious. I ordered the lobster bisque for dinner which was rich and creamy, however, was lacking chunks of lobster. I was saving a popover for my lobster bisque, but Dan came by and swooped up our appetizer plates with the one saved popover in the basket and some steak tartare left on the plate. He didn’t even ask us if we were finished and could take the plates away. Big miss! Our friends ordered a salad and crab cakes for dinner. He said the crabcakes were the best he ever had. My husband ordered the beef Wellington, and it was perfect. The beef was medium rare and the puff pastry was flaky and light. Even with the few negatives, I still recommend The River House.
Previous Visit…’What a great find! The River House is a must if you’re looking for elevated food choices other than Nashville Hot Chicken and BBQ. Large dining area and bar so plenty of seating. I would recommend reservations, though. Nadia was our server and was engaging, attentive and friendly. She provided outstanding service. The food was delicious. My husband and I shared a tableside prepared caesar salad. Francois made a perfect caesar salad. We were given two popovers to go along with the salad. I had the dover sole, and hubby had the ribeye. We shared the creamy whipped potatoes. My dover was moist and flaky, the ribeye perfectly cooked to medium rare, and the potatoes melted in my mouth. My husband ended with a good bourbon and I had a perfectly frothed cappuccino. I highly recommend...
Read moreDined here on Tuesday 5/28/2024 with wife & a family friend. We chose this restaurant due to reviews that were posted on Google & Open Table. We ordered drinks and a couple of appetizers the popovers and calamari. Both were very good and arrived at the table at the correct temperature. After the apps, however, was when everything went downhill. I ordered the Shrimp New Orleans which were over cooked and had no seasoning. My wife ordered the Florida Grouper which was very dry. Our friend ordered the Chilean Sea Bass. When it arrived at the table, we all could tell that it smelled "fishy" even though it had been cooked. Our server , who was absent throughout most of our meal, finally came over to inquire about our meal. Our friend sent her Sea Bass back and ordered the Halibut. When her replacement meal finally made it to the table, it was dry and over cooked. When we advised the server, all she could do at this point was to take it off our bill as it was sent back as well. Next came dessert...my wife & friend shared a Key Lime Pie which was fine. I ordered the carrot cake. What came out was something that looked as if had been taken out of a Little Debbie Snack Cake wrapper and dropped on a plate. The smell & taste was almost chemical. The coffee I ordered was served cold and had to be replaced as well. During all of this dinner debacle, the manager came to our table once...at the beginning when the first dish was returned. After that she was MIA throughout the entire rest of the night. In summary, this restaurant is not worth the time, the trip downtown or the prices they charge for such mediocre food...
