I would give this 0 stars if I could. Save yourself money and time by avoiding this restaurant.
I came here with 5 of my friends celebrating my wife's birthday. The atmosphere was the best thing this place had going and it wasn't even that great. We showed up on a Saturday night to an empty restaurant (which should have been a red flag to begin with) and got seated at the bar instantly. Our server was being trained by a gentlemen who had blondish red hair and a birthmark on his cheek. I figured since our server was being trained, we'd get perfect service, well I was wrong. So I ordered a burger with cheddar cheese in replacement of Swiss which it normally comes with. To my dismay, it came out with the wrong cheese. I was really bummed out but since the plate came with nearly no fries, I said to the server with the birthmark "Hi, I asked for cheddar cheese and this has Swiss but I'm willing to compromise if you'd like to just throw in some extra fries. (Which I knew they have readily available) He replied with "No, that won't happen. How about instead I take your burger and fries back and get you the right burger." And I asked him if it would take a long time and he said no. So 20 minutes later and the whole table is finished with their meal and my burger finally comes out. I would give this place 2 stars if the burger was good, but WOW. I travel a lot for work and eat at a lot of restaurants but this was the worst burger I've ever tasted in my life. The meat tasted so bland and the bun was like cardboard. Not to mention that the guacamole was straight out of a package and had no flavor. Everyone at the table said their meals were bland and didn't taste good. Both the server and the guy being trained didn't offer one bit of sympathy in the check. I don't even think they apologized for the mistake.
Long story short, save your money and do not go to...
Read moreServers were super nice and professional. Bar tender seemed knowledgeable and really trying to keep the place together. Marketing and space is nice. I wanted to really like the food. The best thing we had was the burger. They have a very misleading happy hour menu at the entrance. To be clear it does not occur on Saturdays. They were out of JagerSchnitzel, which seems rather odd for a mid-day Saturday place that advertises schnitzels as their main stay. Their prices are high and do not include any format of side with their entrees. So if you want spatzle or potato salad, be prepared to fork out more cash - unlike anywhere else. Now maybe, if this place boasted the quality of a steak house that it's common to order sides separately, than we'd have something. I think there's some desire to also maybe have family style sharing like element, but nothing except salad is very shareable. Everything including the salad and tarragon dressing was SALTY. Somehow even their garlic aioli for dipping fries was also just garlic and salt. The portions were also quite large but you didn't want to finish any of it. For a place trying to bring a French like, lighter flavor palette or something fresh to schnitzel, it's only got SALT. My suggestion is review the sense of value. It's not in how much people get. It's what they get. Perhaps focus more on smaller portions sizes that taste good and include a side. Costs way too much for salt, and seems to be very confused about what it's...
Read moreColchuck’s in Leavenworth is a cozy spot if you're in the mood for German cuisine, especially schnitzel. We visited during our trip and had an overall enjoyable experience. The location is ideal, right in the heart of the German village downtown. The interior is warmly decorated, aligning perfectly with the village's overall Bavarian theme, giving you a nice German ambiance as you dine.
We made a reservation online and were seated immediately, though the restaurant wasn’t too crowded, so walking in should be fine on most days. The staff was friendly and took the time to introduce us to their specialties, which was helpful since it was our first time there. We ordered the schnitzel, two salad-like dishes, and a non-alcoholic cocktail—all based on the waiter’s recommendations.
The schnitzel was the highlight of our meal. It was flavorful and still crispy, even with the rich sauce and mushrooms poured over it. The combination worked perfectly. The other dishes were interesting but didn’t leave much of an impression—unique for first-timers, but not something we'd go back for. The drink, while refreshing, was also nothing extraordinary.
They have a well-stocked bar with plenty of drink options, but we didn’t explore that side during our visit. In summary, Colchuck’s is a great choice if you’re looking to try authentic German dishes in Leavenworth. If you’re tired of the typical deep-fried pork knuckle, the schnitzel here is definitely worth...
