I picked Harper's for my birthday this year, and my wife took me. We had originally decided on Oak Steakhouse, as we were familiar with it, but I had found Harper's and asked if we could try something new. I'm so glad we did that, and I can not recommend Harper's enough.
From the beginning, everyone was aware of and wished me a happy birthday. Attention to detail and communication were top notch. We were given a half-pour of champagne free which was a nice touch and better than what most places do. On top of that, I was given a personalized keepsake menu that was brought be the manager, Nick, who took time to talk to us as well during a busy dinner service. We truly felt like VIPs.
Our server was Hannah ( I believe) and she was phenomenal. Every question was immediately answered and things like my numerous allergies were a constant front of mind concern for her. Even odd requests like getting my cocktail in a different glass were easy and no issue or met with any pushback. A true customer-first mentality.
The atmosphere was light and not like a traditional steakhouse. The room we sat in at the front was white and green with lots of plants and a high ceiling that just felt more open and airy than other steakhouses that are dark, heavier, and more traditional. It was a nice change of pace from places like Oak and Bourbon.
Drinks were well-balanced and hit the spot. All of the flavors complimented well and the pours were on point. I did not get some of the more unique ones like the one in a parrot cup or the one that is lit on fire, but there's something to save for next time.
The food was top-notch as well, though I'm more surprised it beat out more expensive places like Bourbon Steak in terms of quality, portion size, and variety of dishes. The kitchen staff came out with all of our dishes along with our server to ensure the quality and correct cook. They even went as far as bringing flashlights so that we could ensure our meat was the correct color and temperature.
We started with the Beef Wellington Potstickers which was a perfect portion and a nice savory intro to a meal. I ordered the Elk Tenderloin and my wife had the lamb. The meats were perfectly seasoned and really let their own flavors stand out. The sauces with each were a perfect pairing and light enough to compliment and enhance, not overpower the meats. For sides we had the Crispy Brussel Sprouts, Roasted Garlic Alfredo Mac, and the Battered Steak Fries. I've had sprouts at every steakhouse in the city and these were by far the best. No notes. The mac was creamy and the garlic was a nice addition. A perfect balance between sauce and pasta. And the fries were crispy and light with two sauces. The garlic aioli was amazing with them. I had enough to bring home decent portions of two of the sides.
Dessert was my only "low" point if you could even call it that. More like an A- rather an an A+. The creme brulee was excellent. Light and sweet with that little crunch of caramelization. A perfect individual portion that I'm glad the person filling our water recommended because I came in determined to get the chocolate cake. We got that as well (though a half portion that they offer that isn't on the menu) and it wasn't my preference of taste but my wife loved it. For some it'll be perfect, but for me it was the tiniest miss. If you love more bitter, darker chocolate or don't love overly sweet things then you will enjoy this.
My last highlight was that while we were dealing with the check, Hannah took our valet ticket and had our car brought around so we could just walk out and get into it. No waiting in the rain or inside. Just a smooth transition that I really appreciated.
Overall, I cannot recommend Harper's enough. Bourbon gets all the name glory and name recognition for Chef Mina, but as someone who has been there multiple times, even for my wedding dinner, I wish I had gone to Harper's instead. Everything I had and experienced was better...
Read moreThis is a very subpar steakhouse. Definitely will not be going back at all. Went there last night around 9pm. Sat at the bar on a Thursday night where there were only literally six guests (including my boyfriend and I) at the bar. The female bartender was very nice, but she advised to not get the full size of lobster macaroni for two people. Which I understand, but if I want to get the full size I’ll get the full size and take the rest home. Other than that she was very nice and approached us immediately. There were fireworks last night randomly, so my boyfriend and I went outside to watch them. When I can back, the female bartender was gone. So the male bartender with glasses was extremely inattentive. Possibly the worst service I’ve ever received sitting at a bar since Bar Louie or Blanco or the Ainsworth (which thankfully the Ainsworth is permanently closed). There’s an island in the center of the bar blocking the views of either side, but he works there. There were only six guests at the bar on a Thursday night at 9pm. He should have the intelligence to be able to be way more attentive than he was given there was literally no one at the bar. He should have upped his customer service. Instead he used the few guests at the bar to be lazy it seemed. Even though I already gave my entree order to the female bartender, she had left, so I needed to give my order to the male. It was well over 5 minutes or way long longer minutes that he did not at al acknowledge me. I even made eye contact when he was at the opposite side of the bar and waved. If a guest at a bar makes eye contact and waves, usually I’d assume it means they want your attention as a bar tender. I guess I’m wrong. So even after giving him eye contact and waving to him, I still had to wait way longer. I had to get up and go to him when he wasn’t even talking to any of the other four guests. I told him how long I waited for him and he gave me this offended look. I mean, excuse me I’m offended. I’m a guest. It’s my first time (and thankfully last time) at this place on an extremely dead night. And I’m telling you that I’m trying to order food and I had to wait this amount of time or longer. (I had to wait so long for this male bartender that I gave up and just decided to use the restroom.) So, I inform him how long it took before I HAD TO approach him. And then he gives me this offended look like I have offended him. I then tell him I want to order 4 ounces of the A5 and the rest of my order and his attitude seemed to change. I mean, just ridiculous. The atmosphere is close to nothing besides a hidden restroom and floral wall paper. This place is absolutely nothing compared to many of the other upscale steakhouses I’ve gone to in this city. If I would have just finished my order with the female bar tender and called it a day, then that would have made up for the extremely uneventful atmosphere of this place. But then had to deal with the horrid service of the male bartender and I will never be going back here ever again. I did like the plate presentation of the A5, but that’s about it. The lobster macaroni was not that great. I like the lobster macaroni had little breading, but it didn’t have any flavor. I like the amount of Rock Shrimp served, but Oku has far better more flavorful Rock Shrimp. Oku has the best sushi in town hands down and the bar tenders are always consistently attentive at Oku. My boyfriend also believes Harper is by far no where near any other steak house in Nashville and probably will not last long other than the fact there’s an apartment complex being built...
Read moreMy guy, it was date night and my hubby took me to Harper’s for some fine dining. After finishing all 23 seasons of Hell’s Kitchen I was looking forward to experiencing a Michelin star quality restaurant. After reviewing their menu online to calm my anxiety I pretty much had my selections. So there we are, arrived at the valet for parking, it was windy and my dress has a long slit in the front I almost gave the dudes a Brittany spears moment but I caught my dress just in time. We’re greeted by a super friendly staff that welcomed us in and shortly after checking in we were seated. It’s a low light romantic dining room with the sickest looking light chandeliers over hanging the tables in the middle. We were greeted by Alex as our server, he was super friendly and showed us the menu and gave us some recommendations along with his personal favorites. We made our selections and got 2 NY strips and Alex helped us out by splitting the Alfredo Mac and cheese and potato au gratin. Since the sides were large I knew my big back ass wanted to try as much bang for my buck. But what we absolutely had to try was the Wagyu. We got 4oz cuz you know, it’s expensive. We were given some dinner rolls and omg the best butter/heavens dipping fat idk it was so good. Shortly after that there it was. All of our items came to us. Bruh the wagyu was something else. Like so soft so buttery perfectly cooked and seasoned. I almost wanted to open another credit card just to get more. After I take a few pics we dig in. Every bite of the meal I felt like I was going to turn into a character from food wars anime and convulse from all the delicious flavors. Alex was great to check in on us throughout the experience and we couldn’t be happier. We got a cheesecake as our dessert and gosh dang the goo goo cluster hit the spot by guy. So rich and thick. As we ended the night, just for the girls take your phone in the bathroom to get a full length pic in the mirror. That bathroom was top tier selfie spot. Don’t be like me and forget it. Anyway we got our sides boxed up and ended for the night. Would highly recommend this place. Food Devine. Alex and staff top tier.
The only complaint I guess id have is later I tried opening the plastic take home boxes of our sides to finish eating them and all boxes were like someone add super glue to the lids. These things are so hard to open I broke the lids off to get them separated dropping shards of plastic into my cheesecake I was trying to give to my husband. He says I was trying to kill him but idk maybe I’ve just gotten too strong from working out recently. Scratch that, I have no complaints. I’m just too strong. I will be visiting here again. -the lady in...
