My partner and I came here for dinner tonight as a late Christmas present and we were blown away. This place is a wonderful addition to the Seattle omakase community and has genuinely become one of our favorites.
The overall vibe and atmosphere is intimate, upscale, and beautifully minimal yet still cozy and inviting. The interior design of the restaurant is absolutely stunning.
The menu is seasonal and is designed to highlight flavors of the seasons. Dinner is served on gorgeous, hand crafted Japanese pottery that will take your breath away. My partner and I are potters and tonight’s pottery and dinnerware was some of the nicest and most beautiful we have ever seen. The tiles throughout the restaurant are stunning as well.
The chefs are very talented, skillful, and a joy to get to talk to and get to know over the course of enjoying your dinner. Service from the all of the house staff was also excellent and very welcoming.
Each dish and course is crafted with the finest of detail and offers a beautiful array of flavors, colours, smells and textures. We really enjoyed that the menu offered a wide breadth of flavors, dishes, and cooking styles.
The personal touch at the end of being escorted out and having everyone wave goodbye was also so heartwarming and a one of a kind experience.
Overall, tonight was an incredibly special and unforgettable experience and we cannot wait to come back soon for another dinner!

Read moreTook my husband here for his birthday. Wow, what a wonderful new establishment for those who love fine dining with omakase tasting menus!
We normally look to Kashiba or Taneda for the highest quality Japanese restaurant in Seattle, but we are happy to add Shoman Kappo to our rotation now!
The atmosphere is intimate and minimal yet still upscale, designed to highlight the amazing food served as a tasting menu which changes seasonally.
All the chefs here are talented, pleasant, and at the top of their game. Shout out to Head Chef Masaki for being extra friendly and chitchatting with us throughout our meal, making us feel welcomed. Service from the waitstaff was also excellent.
The dishes were beautiful and meticulously presented. The menu was a perfect mix and balance of light, simple, and understated (very traditional Japanese), and some more boldly flavored pieces like wagyu sukiyaki and sushi with bursts of yuzu. My husband said he had the best tuna sushi (chutoro) he’s had in awhile. We’ve dined at the top restaurants in Tokyo and can confirm that Shoman is very authentic and solid in quality.
My favorite part though was being escorted out at the end of the night and having everyone see us off, waving!!! It was such a memorable moment and special personal touch that made us feel incredibly valued and honored 🙏🏼

Read moreIt was my first visit to ShoMon. The moment I stepped through the traditional noren curtain, I was welcomed into a clean, modern space that still retained a sense of Japanese elegance.
From the knowledgeable sommelier and the warm, attentive servers to the refined chefs, every member of the team made the experience exceptional. Each dish was a feast for the senses even before the first bite—the vibrant colors, the delicate aromas. With every mouthful, the flavors unfolded like a well-composed fragrance, revealing top, middle, and base notes in perfect harmony.
The hassun plate beautifully showcased the season and offered a diverse range of flavors. The tempura of beef covered with zucchini flower was meaty yet flavorful. It was chemistry something I have never had before. I’ve been enjoying sushi for several decades, but their combination of nikiri and chutoro was one of the best I’ve ever had. Instead of the typical pickled ginger, they served locally grown kohlrabi inspired by Japanese senmaizuke—a surprising and delightful touch that went far beyond my expectations.
The level of culinary expertise and the thoughtful presentation left me feeling genuinely happy. ShoMon is a restaurant I would love to return to...
