Nevermore recently hosted our 155-person private party during the Bands of America Grand Nationals competition. We rented the venue for ourselves during their off-hours, before they were open to the public for the evening. While others in our party have left reviews indicating how much they enjoyed the event, I was the contracting agent for the event, so I can provide a little more detail. They have recently brought on all new management and staff, and the co-owners are working hard to provide a stellar experience for their customers, to counteract their original lackluster reviews.
Nevermore staff were a joy to work with, and our event was the highlight meal of our band's 4-day trip to Indianapolis! They were responsive to our requests, and they demonstrated a passion and concern for providing a very positive experience for the students and adults in our group. They created a teenager-friendly buffet of flatbread pizza, chicken tenders, hot wings, mini corn dogs, a street taco bar, salad, cheesecake, and an endless supply of cotton candy(!). The kids piled the food high on their plates, and the dishes kept coming!! They were also very responsive to our students and adults with dietary restrictions. The General Manager brought in his grandmother's recipe for rice and beef stuffed peppers with dirty rice. As a gluten-free and dairy-free consumer myself, I ate this dish, and I can confirm that it was GOOD! One chaperone commented on the passion it takes for the GM to bring in his grandmother's recipe just to help out our folks with special diets.
The layout of the restaurant is such that there is a space for everyone. Lots of nooks and crannies allow patrons to find something for their current speed. We had rowdy games of duckpin bowling, shuffleboard, Scrabble, and billiards going on. (Nothing was more fun than watching one of our students battle it out in an epic game of pool with our Band Director!) But there were also quiet areas for students to sit and chat. One had a book. One was napping. It was a long week, and Nevermore provided a great respite for all. (At my request, they did close off a couple areas that were hidden away, to keep students from staying too far.)
Several of our folks commented on what a great location Nevermore would be for an intimate wedding for a fun-loving couple, or a great large birthday or anniversary party location. Yes - it's a little hard to find. If you're traveling down Meridien, don't go in the entrance that says "We're open!" (Contradictory, I know ...) Instead, go up the blue stairs and go in the door at the top of the blue steps, and go through the foyer to the host podium. Or just have a seat at the first bar. If you enter from the back deck (with the fire pit), you'll be able to sit near the duckpin bowling area.
Please check this place out! The staff here has poured their blood, sweat and tears into this location. It has a lot of potential, and they'll do everything they can to make your...
Read moreI do this with a heavy heart and hurt pride. I had been wanting to check this place out for quite awhile now and since my brother in law was in town I made reservations for my husband, brother in law, his girlfriend (whom we were meeting for the first time) and I. Drinks and dinner 730pm. Loved the decor and vibe of the place when we first walked in. Ordered drinks and appetizers. I think when the waitress tried to take the menus after we ordered those items was maybe a sign to not order dinner as everything went downhill after. The appetizers, calamari and lettuce wraps came out quickly and were good. Drinks came out pretty quickly also. Our party ordered 2 salmon entrees, the chicken and shrimp Alfredo and keto chicken. We got my entree. Around 20 minutes later we got my brother in laws entree. At this time we were notified that the kitchen was out of the keto chicken. Order the truffle Mac and mushroom. Finally around 930pm we tell our waitress to cancel the other 2 entrees as we had gotten tired of waiting and my husband was getting hangry. We went into this knowing there are staff shortages all through the food industry and go into restaurants knowing there will be delays. But waiting over an hour for 2 entrees after 2 being served is a bit ridiculous. They boxed up the food, as at that time it was finally ready. We were comped for the 2 entrees. Something else that was bothersome was the police and security guards that were repeatedly walking back and forth through the restaurant. My husband and I had read the reviews and me, being the more optimistic of the 2, wanted to believe that the bad reviews were just one offs. I had to apologize to my husband and tell him he was right. 🙄 I will give it another chance, but it will just be for drinks and appetizers. The waitress was...
Read moreAs a fan of Poe and kind of a goth in general (also book nerd) I was disappointed somewhat. I was really excited when I heard about this place but my first visit was not at all what I was expecting.
It was way more like a sports bar than I expected. Like, huge TVs blasting American football or something. Granted it was a Sunday. But on the other hand I figured this would be a little more upscale and sophisticated. It was ... not that.
It was nice, not dumpy, but not upscale and far from sophisticated. It was mostly drunk people screaming, like this was around 6pm.
They lots of space but in order to get service we had to sit in the main area by the bar. They were understaffed, but our waitress was nice. I think her name was Waitress.
The kitchen got our order wrong, but the poutine was pretty awesome. The fries are excellent and the gravy was probably just the canned stuff, but because the fries were so good I didn't care.
I dunno, might try it again. Be cool if they catered to the Goth crowd but this is 2022 (and Indianapolis) so I doubt that.
The place was massive and would be great for any number of events. There were a few spots where they actually kind of made it look retro and vaguely upscale. I would have liked if those spots were sort of the norm and not the exception. Also turn down the sports. Feels like this place is trying to do 20 things and none of it quite works.
I will check back again and be sure to pick maybe an evening that isn't sports related. I realize getting a new place up and running is a massive undertaking, I've worked at a few places that were brand new. So I'm hopeful they will...
